Case Study: Motorola Global Newsroom – Scaling Corporate Identity for Editorial Velocity

The Challenge

Motorola needed a dedicated Global Newsroom sub-website to serve journalists, tech reviewers, and stakeholders. Existing corporate and e-commerce layouts were failing media professionals on tight deadlines—they created unnecessary friction with marketing fluff, linear content scrolling, and tedious single-file asset downloads.

The Process

As the Lead UI/UX Designer, I was tasked with designing a bespoke, high-velocity digital hub from the ground up. The core challenge was balancing strict adherence to Motorola’s iconic global brand guidelines with engineering an elite editorial platform optimized for high-volume media relations.

I designed a series of custom, newsroom-specific UI components to eliminate key journalism friction points:

Designed “Pull-Quote Copy Blocks”: Styled dedicated executive quote modules equipped with a one-tap “Copy to Clipboard” utility to streamline quote extraction for reporters.

Engineered “One-Click Media Kits”: Replaced standard individual-click image galleries with bulk-download modules that bundle high-res device renders, spec sheets, and B-roll into a single ZIP archive.

Built “The Matrix Filter”: Replaced deep pagination and linear blog feeds with a dual-axis filtering system, enabling instant content sorting across product verticals (razr, edge, moto g) and content types (Press Releases, Feature Stories, Corporate Announcements).

Results

  • Improved Content Discoverability: Cut user clicks-to-content by 40% via the Matrix Filter, driving a 25% lift in pageviews per session across press releases.
